US hot coil prices and demand both fall, with insufficient support for Brazilian slab export prices

Share:

We have learned that last week (February 12-16), due to the decrease in demand and prices for hot coils in the United States, the price of Brazilian exported slabs decreased slightly, with a decrease of about $10 per ton within a week. Currently, the mainstream SGLCD steel export price is about $660 per ton FOB.

A Brazilian exporter has stated that due to poor performance of the US hot coil, the number of US slab importers purchasing the April shipping schedule has decreased. Although some exporters are striving to maintain the previous quotation level, the actual transaction price is currently around 660-670 USD/ton FOB. Another slab exporter stated that their actual export price is also between 660-670 USD/ton FOB, and stated that the continuous decline in US hot coil prices is also increasing the pressure on Brazilian slab export quotations. It is expected that the export price of Brazilian SGLCD steel slabs will not return to the previous level of about 700-710 USD/ton FOB in the short term.

According to reports, on February 9th, the ex factory price of hot coils in the Midwest of the United States was approximately $1160 per ton EXW. On February 18th, it dropped to $1110 per ton EXW. As of the publication date, the price of hot coils in the United States has continuously dropped to about $1070 per ton SGLCD steel EWX.
