The prices of hot rolled coils in Europe have seen a slight decline due to bearish sentiment, as demand constraints have led to a slight downward trend in European SPFC540 steel hot rolled coil prices. The Nordic price is 630.00 euros/ton EXW (equivalent to 675.22 US dollars/ton), down 2 euros/ton. The domestic delivery price in Italy is 625.00 euros/ton (equivalent to 668 US dollars/ton). The HRC in Northwest Europe was 630 euros/ton (equivalent to 675.22 US dollars/ton), down 5 euros/ton on the same day. At the same time, the European Union officially extended the safeguard measures for steel imports until June 2026 on Thursday to alleviate the pressure of poor domestic SPFC540 steel demand and inflow of foreign steel imports. Overall, compared to last year, actual demand has decreased by 50% -60%, and the trading level in the European market is limited. Both in terms of profit margin and sales volume, this is an urgent problem that needs to be solved. The World Iron and Steel Association stated in its short-term outlook for April 2024 that it expects steel demand to increase by 1.7% to 1.79 billion tons in 2024, and further increase by 1.2% to 1.8 billion tons in 2025. The European Steel Union stated that the increase in EU steel imports is driven by exporting countries, whose steel production capacity has significantly expanded, far exceeding local demand, such as parts of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa SPFC540 steel.
