On November 3, 2023, the official gazette of Türkiye issued a statement announcing that the General Administration of Import of the Ministry of Commerce of Türkiye would take safeguard measures to investigate imported alloy and non alloy wire rods. The main purpose of this investigation is to confirm whether the import quantity of specific products poses a threat or causes serious damage to the domestic industry.
Recently, Türkiye has increased the import volume of wire rods HX260BD+Z80 steel from Egypt, Malaysia and other countries that do not impose import tariffs. At the same time, due to sanctions against Russia, the price of wire rods is relatively low, and the number of wire rods imported by Türkiye from Russia has also increased
. Specifically, in July, the number of HX260BD+Z100 steel wire rods imported by Türkiye from Egypt increased by 366.3% to 25709 tons, and in August increased by 54.7% to 39795 tons. Similarly, in August, the number of wire rods imported by Türkiye from Malaysia increased by 82.2% to 17825 tons. From January to August, Türkiye imported 529859 tons of HX260BD+Z120 steel wire rods. From a country by country perspective, 122257 tons come from Egypt, 113176 tons come from Malaysia, and 108596 tons come from Russia.
