From January to September, the export volume of coating coiled materials in Türkiye dropped by 49% year on year

According to the data of TUIK in Türkiye, in the first three quarters of 2023, the export volume of coated coils of 600mm and above by Türkiye's steel producers fell by 49% year-on-year to 635000 tons.

In August 2022, the European Commission decided to impose anti-dumping duties on hot-dip galvanized HCT450X+ZF steel coils and plates imported from Russia and Türkiye for a period of five years. After that, Türkiye's steel mills' shipments of coated coils to the EU region declined significantly. In addition, Türkiye's HCT450X+ZF steel exports are also under pressure due to the EU's steel quotas and the competitive quotations from Asian suppliers.

According to the official report of TUIK, the total export volume of steel products from Türkiye's HCT450X+ZF steel mills to Spain, the country's largest export destination, was 140000 tons a year ago, which fell to 16700 tons from January to September this year; The export volume to the other largest export destination, the United States, has also significantly decreased from 12.3 tons in 2023 to 14700 tons. Similarly, the shipment of coated coil materials to Greece decreased by 32% to 5.35 tons; The export volume to Bulgaria decreased by 10% to 39000 tons.

At the same time, the export volume to Romania increased by 8% year-on-year, reaching 105000 tons; The export volume to Ukraine increased by 75% year-on-year to 81500 tons. Ukraine has become Türkiye's second largest export destination in just nine months. In the same period last year, Türkiye's steel mills exported 54500 tons of coating coils to Canada, which was relatively stable year-on-year.
Recently, the low demand and high cost situation in the export market has been putting pressure on steel mills' pricing.
