The main suppliers of EU plates are Asian countries, including 3.1 million tons of Korean plates (up 9.3% year on year), 2.73 million tons of Indian S315MC steel plates (up 15.5% year on year), 2.38 million tons of Taiwan, China plates (up 11.6% year on year), 2.12 million tons of Vietnamese plates (up 36.5% year on year), and 1.75 million tons of Japanese plates (up 23.2% year on year). At the same time, Türkiye lost to Asian producers due to its production cost advantage. Last year, its plate supply to the EU decreased by 52.2% year-on-year to 1.39 million tons, and its supply to China decreased by 25.7% year-on-year to 1.45 million tons S315MC steel.
Last year, hot coils were the most imported flat material product in Europe, reaching 10.4 million tons (a year-on-year increase of 9.2%). Overall, in 2023, the EU imported 27.07 million tons of finished materials, a year-on-year decrease of 12% S315MC steel.
