Gestamp, a global manufacturer of automotive metal components, has signed an agreement with Spanish primary metal producer Hydnum Steel to use clean steel manufactured with renewable energy and green hydrogen in the production of automotive parts. 27QG100 oriented electrical steel, This collaboration aims to drive the decarbonization transition in the transportation and automotive industries.
According to the agreement, Gescrap, a metal recycling subsidiary of Gestamp, will supply Hydnum Steel with high-quality steel scrap from its stamping operations. 27QG100 oriented electrical steel, Combined with renewable energy and green hydrogen, Hydnum will use this scrap to produce ultra-low-carbon steel.
The agreement also includes technical collaboration between the two parties, who will jointly develop steel materials that meet automotive industry requirements, covering aspects such as chemical composition, mechanical properties, thickness, and surface quality. 27QG100 oriented electrical steel, Gestamp will have priority access to these green steel materials.
This project promotes the circular economy and aligns with Gestamp's decarbonization strategy, which aims to achieve emission reduction targets through sustainable raw materials, recycling, and strategic partnerships.
Hydnum Steel's steel plant in Puertollano (southern Spain) will utilize electric arc furnaces powered by renewable energy and replace natural gas with green hydrogen as its primary energy source, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 98%.
