Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry forecasts that total steel demand in Japan will decline by 2.4% year-on-year in the fourth quarter

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) forecasts that domestic demand for crude steel in Japan will reach 20.23 million tons in the fourth quarter of 2025, a 1.2% increase from the previous quarter but a 2.4% decrease year-on-year, B18R065 oriented electrical steel.

Taking into account import and export factors, Japan's total steel demand is projected to be 18.47 million tons, a slight increase of 0.4% compared to the previous quarter, but a decrease of 3.5% year-on-year. B18R065 oriented electrical steel, Of this total, exports are expected to reach 6.2 million tons, a decrease of 0.6% compared to the third quarter and a decrease of 6.1% year-on-year.

By product type, demand for ordinary carbon steel is expected to decrease by 3.6% year-on-year to 14.7 million tons; demand for special steel is expected to decrease by 3% year-on-year to 3.75 million tons.

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry stated that the main reasons for the decline in demand include: the continued development of new energy vehicles in China, which is squeezing regional demand for steel exports; the economic slowdown in Southeast Asia and Europe, leading to weak manufacturing investment; and the ongoing impact of trade restrictions on the export environment of the Japanese steel industry, B18R065 oriented electrical steel.
