Laos accelerates urban planning updates; multinational cooperation drives the development of green towns

According to Mysteel, Laos is accelerating regulatory revisions and international cooperation to address the issue of severely lagging urban planning nationwide, aiming to achieve systematic urban development and a green transition.

Latest data from the Lao Department of Housing and Urban Planning indicates that while 139 of the country's 148 urban areas have established plans, over 70% of these plans have been in place for more than a decade without being updated within the five-year timeframe mandated by the 2017 Urban Planning Law. Meanwhile, Laos is actively leveraging international resources to launch several major urban development and environmental protection projects:

In terms of ecological conservation, New Zealand is providing $6.5 million in funding for the restoration of the Nong Leng wetland in Vientiane (the NATURA project, 2024–2029);
