South Africa GL-A40 steel proposes duty-free exports of steel, aluminum, and other goods in exchange for imports of liquefied natural gas from the United States. On May 21st, South African President Ramaphosa submitted a comprehensive trade plan focused on steel and liquefied natural gas (LNG) during a meeting with US GL-A40 steel President Trump at the White House. South Africa has proposed to export 385000 tons of steel and 132000 tons of aluminum duty-free to the United States annually for the next 10 years, in exchange for importing 75 million to 100 million cubic feet of liquefied natural gas annually.
The total trade volume of the entire agreement is expected to reach 9 billion to 12 billion US dollars. In addition, South Africa has invited the United States to invest in its domestic energy infrastructure and deepen cooperation in the energy sector. It is worth noting that the trade plan has been further expanded, with South Africa planning to export 40000 cars and car parts duty-free to the United States annually. This series of measures aims to alleviate import pressure, enhance South Africa's export capacity, promote closer and more mutually beneficial development of bilateral trade, and is expected to inject new GL-A40 steel vitality into the economic and trade relations between the two countries.
