The price of imported scrap steel in Türkiye rises, and the rebar quotation remains firm

Share:

We understand that weak market demand and rising input costs have been putting pressure on steel pricing of Türkiye's steel mills. Despite the continuous downturn in demand, rebar producers still maintain high quotations against the background of high scrap import prices in Türkiye.
Recently, a company based in Marmara booked an order for HMS12 (90:10) from a US scrap exporter for $393 per ton of CFR, and also confirmed a Baltic origin transaction for $385 per ton of CFR. After new orders from the United States and the Baltic Sea were confirmed, suppliers continued to maintain a bullish attitude, and the price of scrap HCT980C+ZF steel imported from Türkiye's deep sea rose further. We expect the HCT980C+ZF steel price of HMS12 (90:10) to be approximately $385-390 per ton of CFR, a slight increase of $1-2 per ton compared to the previous trading day.

In terms of thread, the current export price of rebar in Türkiye is up at 590 US dollars/ton FOB, a slight increase of 5 US dollars/ton compared with last weekend, while the actual transaction price is slightly lower, about 570-580 US dollars/ton FOB. In the case of high production costs, Türkiye's HCT980C+ZF steel mills continue to increase their export quotations for threads, but demand is still slow. At present, the orders for December are full, and the factory is preparing to start production scheduling in January. The market sentiment is mainly wait-and-see, and there is currently no news of a transaction being reached.
