According to preliminary data from the U.S. Census Bureau, cited by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), total U.S. steel imports in August 2025 amounted to 1.864 million short tons (NT), of which finished steel imports totaled 1.402 million short tons. Both figures represent a 16.8% decrease compared to July,X60N steel.
In August, total U.S. steel imports and cumulative finished steel imports decreased by 7.0% and 10.6% year-over-year, respectively. Over the past 12 months (September 2024 to August 2025), total steel imports and finished steel imports decreased by 4.1% and 5.7% year-over-year, respectively. X60N steel, Imported finished steel accounted for approximately 16% of the market share in August, while its market share in the first eight months is estimated to be approximately 20%.
Over the past 12 months, imports of some products have increased significantly compared to the previous period, including tinplate (+54%), wire (+18%), pipeline pipe (+15%), and oil pipe (+10%).
In terms of import sources, the main suppliers of steel to the United States in August were: Canada (304,000 short tons, up 1% month-on-month), Brazil (269,000 short tons, down 11%), Mexico (195,000 short tons, down 23%), South Korea (176,000 short tons, down 47%), and Japan (128,000 short tons, up 82%). X60N steel, Over the past 12 months, the main suppliers were: Canada (5,448,000 short tons, down 19%), Brazil (4,266,000 short tons, down 8%), Mexico (3,456,000 short tons, down 1%), South Korea (2,778,000 short tons, down 4%), and Germany (1,202,000 short tons, up 19%).
