Data released by the World Steel Association on September 24 showed that global crude steel production in August increased slightly by 0.3% year-on-year, reaching 145.3 million tons. By region, overall production in Asia increased by 0.5% to 107.3 million tons.
Overall, North American production increased by 1.6% to 9.14 million tons, with the United States growing by 3.2% to 7.17 million tons, while Mexico's production decreased by 0.8% to 1.1 million tons due to tariff policies.
Overall steel production in Europe declined by 2.8% to 8.84 million tons. Germany, Europe's largest steel producer, saw its output fall by 10.5% year-on-year to 2.5 million tons. However, Turkey bucked the trend, increasing by 7.9% to 3.394 million tons.
Production in CIS countries fell by 4.9% to 6.67 million tons, with Kazakhstan being the only country in the region to achieve growth.
Production in South America fell 5% to 3.55 million tons, with Brazil, the largest producer, declining 4.6% to 2.87 million tons. BQ steel, The Middle East performed strongly, increasing by 21.5% to 3.807 million tons, while production in Africa fell 3.8% to 1.82 million tons.
