Minas Gerais Steel Company in Brazil shuts down a blast furnace

Share:

Usiminas, a Brazilian steel company, recently announced that it had shut down its No.1 blast furnace at its Ipatinga plant in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais, Brazil on December 15, 2023 A635 SHS steel.

Minas Gerais also stated that due to the surge in Brazilian steel imports in 2023, the blast furnace has been shut down with a production capacity of approximately 600000 tons per year. The Brazilian market is relatively open to imports, but is facing unfair competition in imports.

As far as we know, China's A635 SHS steel imports to Brazil increased by 48.6% this year. Minas Gerais is currently expanding its No. 3 blast furnace, which has been shut down for several months due to environmental issues and is the largest blast furnace in Minas Gerais production. Minas Gerais stated that with the resumption of production after the No. 3 blast furnace, Minas Gerais's Ipatinga plant will have an annual pig iron production capacity of approximately 3.6 million tons A635 SHS steel .
