Steel mills raise prices for hot coils and coated products, with a focus on market observation and waiting for the lowest point

Share:

We learned that American steel manufacturers Cleveland Cliffs and Nucor A1011 Grade 30(205) steel have recently announced price increases for their hot-rolled coils and coated products, respectively. Cleveland Cliffs has raised its hot coil base price to $840 per short ton, and new orders will be executed immediately. Previously, the company raised its A1011 Grade 30(205) steel hot coil base price to $1150 per short ton on January 3, and this is the second price increase in 2024. At the same time, Nucor announced an increase in the base prices of its hot coil and galvanized products to $825 per short ton and $1025 per short ton, respectively.

At present, the ex factory price of A1011 Grade 30(205) steel hot coils in the United States is $800 per short ton, which is the same as last week. However, since the beginning of 2024, due to a decrease in market trading activity, the price has cumulatively fallen by $300 per short ton. Due to weak local demand, most buyers maintain a wait-and-see attitude and wait for prices to bottom out before making purchases.
