Turkish galvanized steel wire producer Ozyasar recently announced that it has secured new export orders totaling approximately $9 million, but did not disclose the specific tonnage or destinations. This new order comes at a time when the European Commission has proposed a 47% reduction in duty-free steel import quotas starting from 2024. If implemented, this policy could significantly restrict Turkish steel producers' access to their main export markets and potentially reshape the regional steel trade landscape.
Ozyasar's products cover multiple sectors including energy, infrastructure, cables, automotive, home appliances, construction, and agriculture. A709 Grade HPS 690W steel sheet, The company has an annual steel wire production capacity of 286,000 tons and focuses on high-value-added products such as hot-dip galvanized steel, giving it the potential to flexibly shift to other regions if faced with restrictions in the EU market.
Meanwhile, affected by rising raw material costs and trade uncertainties, the overall price of steel in the Turkish market is under upward pressure. As of October 13, the export price of Turkish rebar rose to US$545/ton FOB. The main reason for the price increase is the rising cost of imported scrap steel, with the import price of high-quality heavy melting scrap (HMS 1/2 80:20) increasing by US$3 to US$351/ton CFR.
