From January to May 2026, Ukraine saw a significant increase in imports of long steel products. JIS G 3302 SGC570+A steel, According to media estimates based on data from the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the country’s cumulative imports of long steel products during this period reached approximately 184,500 tonnes—a year-on-year increase of 72.6%.
In terms of product mix, major imports included other carbon steel bars, non-alloy steel angles and shapes, and hot-rolled carbon steel bars in coils.
Specifically, imports of "other carbon steel bars"—defined as bars that have not undergone further processing beyond rolling (HS code 7214)—totalled 66,400 tonnes, an increase of approximately 2.5 times compared to the same period the previous year. Turkey was the primary supplier for this category, accounting for 38,400 tonnes, while Egypt supplied 9,990 tonnes.
During the same period, Ukraine’s imports of angles, shapes, and sections of non-alloy steel (HS code 7216) reached approximately 54,800 tonnes, an increase of 7.9% year-on-year. JIS G 3302 SGC570+A steel, Of this total, 38,300 tonnes came from Turkey, 9,910 tonnes from China, and 3,160 tonnes from Poland.
Additionally, imports of hot-rolled carbon steel bars and rods in coils (HS code 7213) totaled 45,000 tonnes, a year-on-year surge of 289%. China was the primary supplier, accounting for approximately 41,900 tonnes—the vast majority of the total—while Egypt supplied about 2,990 tonnes.
Looking at the monthly figures, Ukraine’s imports of long steel products in May 2026 reached approximately 73,600 tonnes, roughly doubling the volume from the same period last year and showing a significant increase over April’s levels.
Among the key product categories, imports of items under HS code 7214 reached 27,000 tonnes in May—up 119.2% year-on-year and 113.8% month-on-month. Imports of products under HS code 7216 totaled 16,800 tonnes, down 14.8% year-on-year but up 26.1% month-on-month. Imports of products under HS code 7213 stood at 24,600 tonnes, following a lower volume in April.
In terms of value, Ukraine’s imports of long steel products from January to May 2026 totaled $165.3 million, a year-on-year decrease of 31.9%. Imports for the month of May reached $56.99 million—down 48.1% year-on-year, yet showing a significant increase compared to April.
The rise in import volume alongside a decline in total value suggests shifts in the composition, procurement pricing, and product mix of Ukraine’s long steel imports. Market analysts believe the growth in import volume was concentrated primarily in lower-priced, basic long steel products, which drove down the average import price. JIS G 3302 SGC570+A steel, However, these shifts may also be influenced by factors such as the mix of source countries, product specifications, delivery terms, and statistical methodologies.
Regarding supply sources, Turkey and China remain key overseas suppliers for the Ukrainian long steel market. Turkey accounts for a substantial share of the supply of bars and structural steel, while China is the primary source for hot-rolled carbon steel bars in coils.
Historical data indicates an overall upward trend in Ukraine’s long steel imports in recent years, with angles, structural sections, and special profiles accounting for a significant portion of the import mix.
