Ukraine's crude steel output declined year-on-year during the January–April period of 2026, driven by disruptions to regional power infrastructure and intermittent production halts at certain steel mills. Preliminary data from the Ukrainian steel industry association Ukrmetalurgprom indicate that crude steel production for the four-month period totaled 2.25 million tonnes—a year-on-year decrease of 7.4% (or 179,000 tonnes). HCT980XG+Z Hot dip galvanized steel , Pig iron output stood at 2.35 million tonnes, down slightly by 0.3% year-on-year, while rolled steel production fell by 9.1% to 1.80 million tonnes.

Monthly figures show an accelerated decline in steel production during April. Crude steel output for the month was 517,300 tonnes, down 25.3% year-on-year; pig iron production was 554,000 tonnes, down 16.1%; and rolled steel production was 460,800 tonnes, down 15.8%. Overall, production faced more pronounced disruptions in April, with year-on-year declines reaching double-digit figures for both crude steel and rolled steel.

Regarding steel mills, Zaporizhstal—Ukraine's second-largest steel plant—produced 914,800 tonnes of crude steel, 1.01 million tonnes of pig iron, and 819,200 tonnes of rolled steel products during the January–April period, representing year-on-year declines of 10.2%, 10.6%, and 5.2%, respectively. HCT980XG+Z Hot dip galvanized steel , Production dropped significantly in April due to disruptions in the regional power supply; output for the month stood at 156,600 tonnes of crude steel (down 47.5% year-on-year), 193,500 tonnes of pig iron (down 31.6%), and 159,100 tonnes of rolled steel products (down 30%). The company stated that the production decline was primarily due to unplanned equipment shutdowns caused by issues affecting regional infrastructure; during the downtime, the company carried out maintenance and repairs on production units and processing facilities to enhance future operational stability.

Additionally, Zaporizhkoks—Zaporizhstal's primary coke supplier—produced 281,700 tonnes of coke during the January–April period, a figure unchanged from the same period last year. Both Zaporizhstal and Zaporizhkoks are subsidiaries of Metinvest, Ukraine's largest steel and mining group. For the full year, Ukraine's crude steel output totaled 7.41 million tonnes (down 2.2% year-on-year), pig iron output reached 7.88 million tonnes (up 11.2%), and rolled steel product output was 6.52 million tonnes (up 4.8%).

Regarding prices, as of May 12, the price of hot-rolled coil in Northwest Europe stood at €695/tonne (EXW Ruhr), remaining flat month-on-month. HCT980XG+Z Hot dip galvanized steel , Overall, Ukraine's steel output continued its year-on-year decline from January to April, with the impact of regional power supply disruptions becoming more pronounced in April; in the short term, the stability of steel mill operations remains contingent on regional energy supplies and equipment performance.
