Ukraine’s flat steel imports fell 12.8% year-on-year in the first quarter

According to calculations by foreign media based on data from Ukraine's State Customs Service, Ukraine imported a total of 233,850 tonnes of flat steel products from January to March 2026, a year-on-year decrease of 12.8%.

By product type, coated flat steel (HS Code 7210) accounted for over 50% of the total, with imports reaching 118,860 tonnes—a year-on-year increase of 7.3%. HX180YD+ZM steel strip ,The primary suppliers were Turkey (59,340 tonnes), South Korea (10,410 tonnes), and Slovakia (9,260 tonnes).

Hot-rolled coils and sheets (HS Code 7208) accounted for approximately 28% of the total, with imports of 65,720 tonnes, marking a sharp year-on-year decline of 33.6%. HX180YD+ZM steel strip ,Turkey was the largest source, supplying 58,180 tonnes, while China and the Czech Republic supplied 2,870 tonnes and 1,590 tonnes, respectively.

Imports of cold-rolled sheet and coil (HS Code 7209) totaled 23,090 tonnes, down 29.8% year-on-year. Turkey supplied 21,540 tonnes, while Slovakia supplied 1,160 tonnes.

In March alone, imports of flat steel products from Ukraine amounted to 101,640 tonnes, an increase of 4.7% year-on-year and a significant rise of 51.9% month-on-month. HX180YD+ZM steel strip ,This volume included 48,730 tonnes of coated/plated sheet (up 12.9% year-on-year and 26.7% month-on-month), 31,320 tonnes of hot-rolled sheet and coil (down 10.8% year-on-year but up 103% month-on-month), and 48,730 tonnes of cold-rolled sheet and coil (up 12.9% year-on-year and 26.7% month-on-month).

Regarding import value, expenditure on flat steel imports for the January–March period totaled $238.13 million, a year-on-year decrease of 12.3%; the value for March was $98.30 million, down 3.4% year-on-year but up 34.7% month-on-month.
