According to data from the Vietnam Steel Association, Vietnam's crude steel production reached 12.55 million tonnes from January to May 2026, a year-on-year increase of 26.4%. By product category, hot-rolled coils showed particularly strong performance. Construction steel also maintained steady growth, with output reaching 6.29 million tonnes (up 18.7% year-on-year) and sales volume increasing by 14.7%.
Meanwhile, steel exports fell by 8.0% year-on-year to 2.26 million tonnes. Specifically, the output of coated and color-coated sheets declined by 15.1%, and exports dropped by 32.6%. The Vietnam Steel Association attributed this primarily to weak demand in key export markets and the tightening of trade remedy measures by various countries.
Looking ahead to the second half of 2026, the Vietnam Steel Association anticipates that expanded public investment and a recovering real estate market will support steel demand.
