ArcelorMittal reduces carbon emissions from steel transportation by approximately 90%

Share:

Global steel manufacturer ArcelorMittal will launch a low-carbon transportation service to deliver steel to European customers, reducing carbon dioxide emissions from road transportation by approximately 90%.

In 2023, ArcelorMittal Europe's S275 Grade B steel steel shipments amounted to 27.5 million tons. Road transportation accounts for about 38% of the total product transportation volume, with an average emission of 65 grams of carbon dioxide per ton of steel per kilometer. Using trucks powered by hydrogen biodiesel (HVO) for transportation can reduce carbon S275 Grade B steel emissions by 80-90%. The transportation service will be launched at the end of 2022. In 2023, 190000 tons of steel will be tested and transported over a distance of 580000 kilometers, resulting in an energy-saving and emission reducing carbon dioxide emissions of 794 tons.

As of now, ArcelorMittal has transported its factories in eight countries including Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, and the United Kingdom through low-carbon trucks. Steel is delivered to customers through low-carbon transportation in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Germany, and Poland S275 Grade B steel.
