Global steel producer ArcelorMittal said a fire at its Fos-sur-Mer steel plant in France on October 8 damaged the steelmaking workshop and brought production to a near standstill. 27H074 Grain oriented electrical steel, The company has recently resumed normal production at the plant. This information comes from a company press release.

At 3:24 a.m. on December 21, the plant produced its first slab for a Greek customer since the shutdown. The slab was 6 meters long, 1,620 millimeters wide, and 229 millimeters thick.

The key milestone in this resumption of production was the successful restart of blast furnace No. 2 in mid-December. Subsequently, the steelmaking workshop produced its first batch of slabs between Sunday night and Monday morning, which spurred the resumption of operation of the hot rolling mill. 27H074 Grain oriented electrical steel, This hot rolling line can process semi-finished products into plates with a thickness of 1.5–25 mm, and further roll them into steel coils.

Following the fire in October, production at the Fos-sur-Mer steel plant was initially limited, and subsequently almost entirely shut down except for the coking and chemical division. Frédéric Baku, head of the most severely affected department, stated that employees played a crucial role in the resumption of production, and the plant team demonstrated strong engineering capabilities in the design and implementation of solutions, enabling production to resume as quickly as possible.

François Sgro, General Manager of ArcelorMittal Méditerranée, stated that the company is gradually returning to normal operations and has resumed deliveries to customers.

The Fos-sur-Mer steel plant primarily produces automotive and industrial steel, supplying over 150 steel products to customers in the Mediterranean region. With approximately 2,500 employees and 1,200 outsourced workers, it is one of the major steel production bases in southern France.

In addition, ArcelorMittal recently launched a large-scale refurbishment project for blast furnace No. 1 at its Fos-sur-Mer plant, with a total investment of approximately €53 million. Against the backdrop of capacity reduction, this project will extend the equipment's lifespan and ensure operational efficiency. 27H074 Grain oriented electrical steel, From 2024 onwards, only one blast furnace will remain in operation at the site, with the refurbished No. 1 furnace gradually replacing the existing No. 2 furnace.
