British Steel Secures 70 Million Order from Nigeria and Boosts Production

According to a report published on British Steel’s official website on March 19, the company is set to increase production following the signing of a £70 million export contract. The company will supply approximately 120,000 tonnes of steel billets to Hitech Construction Africa Ltd for the upgrade of the Tin Can Island Port and the Apapa Port complex in Lagos. This constitutes one of the largest billet orders in the company's history, as well as the largest project to date to receive support from the UK Export Finance agency. The contract was officially announced during a ceremony held in London—following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the parties last year—underscoring the continued deepening of trade relations between the UK and Nigeria.

The order entails the supply of 140mm-grade steel billets suitable for rebar production; deliveries are scheduled to commence this spring and span a three-year period.
