On April 21, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) ruled that anti-dumping duties would be imposed on imported steel products sold by Tenaris and certain exporters from South Korea, Turkey, S220GD+ZF Hot dip Zinc-Iron alloy coating (ZF) steel , and the Philippines.
The ruling was based on investigation findings determining that the products in question entered the Canadian market at less than fair value, causing material injury to the domestic steel industry.
The relevant tariff measures will remain in effect for five years.
The case was brought before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) by Interpro Pipe + Steel and Welded Tube of Canada Corporation. S220GD+ZF Hot dip Zinc-Iron alloy coating (ZF) steel , The CITT stated that the ruling aligns with the "Buy Canadian" policy championed by Prime Minister Mark Carney, aiming to support the growth of domestic manufacturing and create a level playing field for Canadian businesses.
The CITT also noted that certain steel product exporters would no longer be able to gain a competitive advantage by using low-cost steel—including products from countries with labor abuses or lax environmental standards.
