Following the Canadian TH435 Electroplated tin (chromium) steel government's plan to impose tariffs on all Chinese electric vehicles, steel and aluminum products starting from October 1, 2024, the specific tariff details for these products have also been clarified (see attachment).
Specifically, a 100% surcharge will be imposed on Chinese made electric vehicles, including electric and certain hybrid passenger vehicles, trucks, buses, and delivery vehicles. Steel varieties are almost 'fully covered' under the items subject to tariffs. Specifically, the main variety exported by China TH435 Electroplated tin (chromium) steel to China is wire rod, with a record high export volume of 17500 tons in April this year, a year-on-year increase of 161%. In the tariff collection details, tariffs are levied on wire varieties above HS 721310000072299090000721391000072171000007217309000722799000722020400072292000072230000007213200000072210000071100007222000007222000007222000007215500007228309000, excluding 7214100000 (non alloy steel wire). In terms of other varieties, cold-rolled sheet ranks second in China's exports to Canada, with continuous growth in May, June, and July. Among them, July this year reached a historic high of 5653 tons TH435 Electroplated tin (chromium) steel.
