Canadian S550Q Grade E steel Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on August 26th that Canada will impose 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles and 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum. The tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles will take effect on October 1st, while the tariffs on steel and aluminum will take effect on October 22nd. In May of this year, the United States announced that it would impose four times the tariff on imported electric vehicles from China, reaching 100%. The European S550Q Grade E steel Union followed suit and announced plans to impose tariffs of up to 36.3% on electric vehicles made in China.
Recently, the Canadian government will allow companies to avoid new tariffs on Chinese made electric vehicles and steel "in specific and exceptional circumstances". Canadian companies will be able to apply for exemptions from new tariff increases, exemption from paying tariffs, or receive refunds if tariffs have already been paid. The situation where tariff reduction is applicable is that if the goods used to produce raw materials or their substitutes cannot be purchased domestically or reasonably from non Chinese sources in Canada, or if a contract was reached before August 26, which requires Canadian S550Q Grade E steel companies to purchase Chinese goods within a certain period of time, the tariff reduction policy applies.
