Gerdau to fully take over Brazil’s COPEL hydroelectric power plant

Gerdau, Brazil's largest iron ore miner and steel producer, JAC390P Hot dip galvanized steel strip,has submitted a binding proposal to and signed a share purchase agreement with the Brazilian power company Companhia Paranaense de Energia (COPEL) to acquire COPEL's entire stake—representing 23.03% of the share capital—in the Dona Francisca Energetica SA (DFESA) hydroelectric plant.

The company stated that the acquisition aligns with its capital allocation plan and decarbonization strategy; it will enhance cost competitiveness across its business segments, increase self-generated power to over 50% of its total energy consumption, and prioritize the development of renewable energy. Gerdau currently holds a 53.94% stake in DFESA, corresponding to 35.6 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity.
