German steel production fell 9.1% month-on-month in November

According to the latest data released by the German Steel Industry Association (WVStahl), German steel production continued to contract in November 2025, marking the 11th consecutive month of year-on-year decline. M100-30P Grain oriented electrical steel, Total crude steel production in November was 2.84 million tons, a 9.1% decrease compared to October 2025 and a 2.6% decrease compared to the same period in 2024. In terms of production processes, converter steel production was 1.89 million tons, a 3.4% decrease year-on-year and a 12.6% decrease month-on-month; electric steel production was 943,000 tons, a slight decrease of 0.7% year-on-year and a 1.0% decrease month-on-month. Pig iron production in November was 1.87 million tons, a 1.0% decrease compared to the same period in 2024 and a 4.5% decrease compared to October of the same year. However, hot-rolled steel production showed a slight rebound, reaching 2.5 million tons, a slight increase of 0.4% year-on-year and a 1.3% increase month-on-month. From January to November 2025, the German steel industry produced a total of 31.35 million tons of crude steel, a 9.3% decrease compared to the same period last year. Converter furnace output was 21.43 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 11.6%; electric furnace output was 9.91 million tons, a decrease of 3.8%.

Overall, German steel production will continue to face downward pressure in 2025. Although hot-rolled output saw a slight month-on-month increase in November, M100-30P Grain oriented electrical steel, the main production segments generally weakened year-on-year.
