On July 16th local time, the Houthi armed group in Yemen CR1700T/1350Y-MS steel released a video about their attack on the Red Sea sailing vessel Chios Lion. The Maritime Center stated that after the Houthi armed attack, the oil tanker is assessing the possibility of an oil spill in the Red Sea. The Houthi militants issued a statement stating that the ship violated the Houthi ban by heading to an Israeli port and was therefore attacked by Houthi militants on the 15th. After the attack, the US Central Command stated that the incident did not cause any casualties. At the same time, the Houthis also stated that they will continue to attack ships related to or bound for Israel until Israel stops its attacks on the Gaza Strip and lifts the blockade.

According to JOIN WIN STEEL, the number of maritime attacks launched by Houthi militants on merchant ships in June reached a record high for the year, with a total of 16 confirmed incidents of attacks on ships, making it the month with the highest number of attacks since June and causing a sharp decrease of 85% in shipping volume. In order to avoid attacks by the Houthi armed forces in the Red Sea, a large number of ships currently sailing long distances around Africa CR1700T/1350Y-MS steel to and from Europe have increased their travel time by 10 days or even longer, resulting in severe container congestion in many locations and a sharp rise in freight CR1700T/1350Y-MS steel costs.
