According to Indonesian trade statistics, Indonesia's imports of semi-finished steel products totaled 445,000 tonnes in April 2026, marking a month-on-month decrease of 21.5% and a year-on-year increase of 12.2%. By source, imports from China stood at 274,000 tonnes (up 38.6% year-on-year); Oman supplied 54,000 tonnes (down 49.7%); Vietnam supplied 50,000 tonnes (2.4 times the volume of the same period last year); Russia supplied 47,000 tonnes (double the volume of the same period last year); and Taiwan (China) supplied 20,000 tonnes (compared to zero in the same period last year). HX500LAD+ZM steel strip ,Chinese products accounted for over 60% of the total volume, reflecting a continued strengthening of its market position.

Indonesia's monthly imports of semi-finished steel typically fluctuate between 400,000 and 500,000 tonnes. Prior to the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East, imports in February totaled 551,000 tonnes—with Oman (233,000 tonnes) and Saudi Arabia (50,000 tonnes) accounting for a combined 283,000 tonnes, more than half of which consisted of Iranian-produced slabs transshipped via these two nations. As the situation in the Middle East escalated—leading to production halts at some Iranian steel mills and the imposition of a steel export ban by Iran—Indonesia was compelled to seek alternative sources. HX500LAD+ZM steel strip ,China, Vietnam, and Russia appear to have largely absorbed this replacement demand, with shipments from China nearly doubling from the 123,000 tonnes recorded in February.

Statistics from Indonesia indicate that, prior to the conflict, the average CIF prices for imports were $456 per tonne for Chinese supplies, $442 for Russian supplies, and $455 for Vietnamese supplies. Leveraging its price competitiveness, Russian supply gained a certain share of the market as an alternative source.
