Tata Steel recently announced that its £1.25 billion electric arc furnace project at Port Talbot could face delays of up to eight months due to issues regarding power grid connection. HX460LAD+ZM steel strip ,The electric furnace was originally scheduled to come online in late 2027, replacing the traditional blast furnaces that were shut down two years ago.
While the company is collaborating with the National Grid to upgrade power infrastructure, a senior executive revealed during an investor call that grid connection issues could push back the project timeline. He noted that major demolition work has been completed and that securing high-capacity power access is critical to the transformation. HX460LAD+ZM steel strip ,The National Grid has formally notified the company of a delay in the connection project, and discussions regarding a solution are underway involving the National Grid and the UK government. Regarding the duration of the delay, the executive indicated it could range from six to eight months, or potentially even longer.
The National Grid stated that the project involves constructing two new substations, installing transformers, and laying two kilometers of underground cable; although geological conditions, environmental factors, and planning considerations have caused delays, work is continuing to progress.
Tata Steel announced that it would discuss adjustments to the commissioning schedule with partners—including the UK government, HX460LAD+ZM steel strip ,the National Grid, and its electricity suppliers—to ensure the project is completed safely and as quickly as possible.
