According to data from the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA), Iran's production of long and flat products decreased year-on-year during the first four months of the Persian calendar year (March 21-July 22) of 2025, NK K/F70N steel while semi-finished product output saw a slight increase. Industry insiders cite summer power restrictions as the primary factor suppressing steel mill output, with export restrictions also weighing on production.
Total semi-finished product production increased by 0.7% year-on-year to nearly 10.9 million tons. Billet production remained essentially flat at 6.6 million tons, NK K/F70N steel while slab production increased by 1.9% to 4.3 million tons. Despite increased exports, energy constraints and exchange rate fluctuations continued to weigh on operations.
Finished steel production fell 3% year-on-year to 7.4 million tons. Rebar and wire rod production increased 2.7% year-on-year to approximately 3.5 million tons, while H-beam production plummeted 39.5% to 311,000 tons. Long steel exports plummeted 30% year-on-year to 810,000 tons, weighing on overall production. Flat steel production fell 8.2% to less than 3.3 million tons, primarily due to weak demand for hot-rolled coil.
Raw materials performed relatively well: Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) production increased by 2% year-on-year to approximately 14.8 million tons, while iron ore concentrate production increased by 5.1% year-on-year to 26.4 million tons. NK K/F70N steel In contrast, pellet production decreased by 5.6% to just over 22 million tons.
Overall, Iran's steel industry, despite the combined pressures of energy shortages, exchange rate fluctuations, and export restrictions, has shown some resilience in the semi-finished product segment, but has come under significant pressure in the finished product segment.
