Kazakhstan's Qarmet plans to launch a steel section production line in 2026, advancing multiple capacity expansion plans

According to local Kazakh media reports, Qarmet Steel plans to commission a 1 million ton per year section steel mill in Temirtau in 2026, along with a supporting casting and rolling complex. The total investment is approximately US$700 million. Jens Barth, Qarmet's Chief Development Officer, stated that this September, the Temir Steelworks will be connected to natural gas for the first time. This will increase blast furnace capacity, reduce pig iron production costs, and boost annual liquid steel production to 6 million tons. The company also plans to commission coke oven batteries No. 8 and No. 9 in 2027, bringing its total annual dry coke production capacity to 1.5 million tons. Barth noted that the new casting and rolling complex is a key component of Qarmet's modernization plan. The project is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year, with full production scheduled for 2027.

According to Qarmet's 2025 business plan, the company aims to reach annual steel production of 3.7 million tons.
