SMS Group, a global leader in metallurgical plant and machinery, officially inaugurated its newly constructed manufacturing facility in Sanand—near Ahmedabad, India—on January 21. This move marks a significant step in the Group's global expansion strategy, aimed at leveraging localized manufacturing capabilities to better serve one of the world's fastest-growing steel markets.
The new facility will primarily manufacture equipment for flat products, long products, and forging technologies to meet the continuously growing demand of the local market. 50A400 Non oriented magnetic steel, This site is set to become a pivotal link in SMS Group's global manufacturing network, with operations expected to involve approximately 160 SMS employees and up to 400 contractors.
Spanning 80,000 square meters, the Sanand plant serves as SMS’s second manufacturing facility in India, complementing the Bhubaneswar plant in Odisha, which commenced operations in 2014. The Sanand region boasts a robust industrial foundation and is situated in close proximity to many of SMS’s key clients, enabling the company to respond rapidly to specific requirements. The area features well-developed infrastructure, a stable supply of energy and water, and access to a skilled workforce. Furthermore, this strategic location facilitates the efficient delivery of SMS-manufactured components to both domestic Indian and international customers.
The company plans to undertake further development at its new facility, including additional investments in advanced machinery and specialized talent. This initiative continues SMS Group’s long-standing commitment to and deep-rooted presence in the Indian market—a legacy established through its predecessor organizations.
Currently, SMS maintains offices in Gurgaon, Kolkata, Pune, Bhubaneswar, and Sanand, with its Indian headquarters situated in Gurgaon, near New Delhi.
