South Africa Raises Steel Import Tariffs to 30% to Counter Import Surges Amid Escalating Trade Protectionism by China, the US, and the EU
The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) released a report on its steel tariff review, noting that the domestic steel industry is calling for a uniform 30% safeguard tariff on all steel products. The report indicates that steel from China and India is entering the local market at prices significantly lower than those in South Africa's domestic market, undermining the competitiveness of local steel producers.
