According to the latest data from the World Steel 13Ni14b steel Association, crude steel production in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries saw a slight increase from January to November 2024, with major steel producers producing approximately 18 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2%. Despite a year-on-year decrease of 4% and 1% in production in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Oman saw a significant increase of 27% in production thanks to newly put into operation production facilities, effectively compensating for the decline in major markets.
The production of other 13Ni14b steel countries in the region also showed moderate growth, with Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain increasing by 5%, 2%, and 1% year-on-year, respectively. Some Saudi market participants have stated that seasonal factors in summer have led to a slight decline in production in some months, but overall fluctuations are not significant.
In November alone, crude steel production in the GCC region continued the trend of the previous 10 months, reaching a total of 1.7 million tons. Among them, Oman led the regional performance with a year-on-year increase of 20%, while 13Ni14b steel Kuwait was the only country to experience a decline, with a year-on-year decrease of 2%. The growth rate of other countries remains between 2% and 10%.
