According to a report in the Brazilian Official Gazette on August 29, the Executive Committee of the Brazilian Foreign Trade Commission has decided to formally impose anti-dumping duties on tin-plated or chrome-plated carbon steel sheets (collectively referred to in the industry as tin-plated/chrome-plated steel sheets) originating from China, made of alloy and non-alloy materials. According to the committee's announcement, anti-dumping duties range from US$284.34 to US$499.35 per tonne,X70 steel, with a maximum implementation period of five years.
The Brazilian Steel Packaging Association criticized the decision, X70 steel, arguing that it would only benefit the monopolistic Brazilian state-owned steel company CSN and drive up the prices of basic food items by increasing the cost of packaging containers for items such as canned sardines.
