Due to the growing demand of the European HR235 steel Union for Türkiye, the value of Türkiye's steel exports in July increased by 24% year on year, reaching a record high of 1.4 billion US dollars. Among them, the exports of Türkiye's steel producers in the Mediterranean region increased significantly, reaching US $259 million in July this year, up 171% year on year. Despite the implementation of steel quotas by the European Union, there was still a significant increase in steel exports to some EU HR235 steel countries, especially Italy and Spain, in July. The increase of Türkiye's steel production and the advantage of low prices led to a sharp increase in exports. It is expected that the export data in the fourth quarter will still increase.
According to the data of the World Iron and Steel Association, the crude steel output of Türkiye from January to July increased by 14.9% year on year, reaching 21.7 million tons. The price of hot coils in Türkiye is 570 dollars/ton, which has dropped by 20% since the beginning of 2024. In terms of long materials, most steel mills' orders for September have been fully booked. The rebar of Türkiye Steel Works is quoted at 575 dollars/ton FOB, and the tradable price of 15000-20000 tons rebar HR235 steel is 570 dollars/ton FOB, which is expected to decrease by 15-20 dollars/ton in the future.
