Erdemir and Isdemir, the leading steel producers in Türkiye, are subsidiaries of OYAK Mining and Metallurgy Group, and continue to explore ways to meet their power demand through self power supply mode. These two companies plan to build a power plant in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa in the country.
According to us, Erdemir S235 Grade D steel plans to build a photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 171 MWm (125 MWe) on 189.64 hectares of land. It is expected to install 310932 solar panels with an annual power generation of 263.5 GWh. The construction investment of the photovoltaic system is 2.35 billion Türkiye lira (about 69.58 million US dollars; $1=TRY 33.82), the estimated construction period is 33 months (including license application, equipment assembly, testing and commissioning), and the expected service life of the project after completion is 30 years.
Isdemir, another steel producer of OYAK Mining and Metallurgy Group, plans to invest 2.56 billion Türkiye lira (about 75.68 million US dollars) to build a 186 MWm (135 MWe) photovoltaic power generation facility. According to the latest environmental impact assessment application, the facility will occupy an area of 171.1 hectares. The official announcement stated that currently, 338202 solar panels will be used in this project. The annual power generation capacity of this facility is 291.8 GWh. The S235 Grade D steel construction time frame and asset service life are the same as Erdemir's project.
According to us data, Erdemir, the first flat steel producer in Türkiye, has an annual output of about 3.8 million tons of crude steel and 5.1 million tons of finished steel. Isdemir has the ability to produce flat steel and long steel, with an annual production S235 Grade D steel capacity of 5.3 million tons.
