UAE’s new regulations on construction steel will enhance the traceability of imported steel

Share:

The new SG245W1 Grade C steel regulations on construction steel recently introduced by the United Arab Emirates will provide traceability protection for the entire process from raw materials to finished products. This regulation was proposed by Michael Rion, Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates Steel (a subsidiary of Emsteel), during the Middle East Steel Conference held in Dubai on November 18th.

The UAE SG245W1 Grade C steel Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) has formulated new regulations to ensure that imported steel meets specified standards, including BS 4449 2005, ASTM 615/615M, ASTM 706, and ISO 6935. Starting from November 27th, the new regulations will officially come into effect, covering threaded steel, wire rod, and steel billet products used in construction.

To this end, the United Arab Emirates has launched the "UAE Conformity Assessment System" (ECAS), which requires all producers of steel exported to the UAE to obtain ECAS certification. The certification review will be conducted by third-party organizations (CARES and SGS in the UK) and ensure that each participant meets all the requirements specified. In addition, the relevant documents of steel need to be uploaded to the cloud system and monitored by MoIAT to prevent false reporting of SG245W1 Grade C steel steel sources. At present, the new regulations mainly target manufacturers of steel bars and steel mesh, but may be expanded to other types of steel in the future.
