The American Iron and Steel Institute reported on April 27 that the U.S. raw steel capacity utilization rate fell to 79.3% for the week ending April 25, down from 80% the previous week.
Production for the week totaled 1.830 million tons, HX220YD+ZM steel strip ,a 1.0% decrease from the 1.848 million tons produced during the week ending April 18.
Compared to the same period last year—when the capacity utilization rate was 75.0% and production totaled 1.684 million tons—output increased by 8.7%.
Adjusted year-to-date production through April 25 totaled 29.549 million tons, HX220YD+ZM steel strip ,with a capacity utilization rate of 77.8%.
This figure represents a 6.0% increase over the 27.888 million tons produced during the same period last year, when the capacity utilization rate stood at 76.1%.
By region, production was 131,000 tons in the Northeast, 510,000 tons in the Great Lakes region, 302,000 tons in the Midwest, 821,000 tons in the South, HX220YD+ZM steel strip ,and 66,000 tons in the West.
