ArcelorMittal commissions new production line in France

ArcelorMittal, Europe's largest steelmaker, announced on March 31 that its newly constructed non-oriented electrical steel production line at the Mardyck plant in northern France had successfully produced its first coil. DC04+ZN Electrolytically zinc-nickel coated steel, The initial coil, produced on March 26, weighed over 17 tonnes and measured approximately 4 kilometers in length; the line has now entered the operational phase. The company will gradually ramp up production capacity and transition to full-scale shipments once quality has been verified. It is expected to take several months to reach full production capacity.

Reportedly, three production lines at the site—covering pretreatment, annealing and insulation treatment, and slitting—are already operational. DC04+ZN Electrolytically zinc-nickel coated steel, The project involved a workforce of 400 employees, with a dedicated team of approximately 175 people currently handling operations. Plans are in place to construct five additional facilities at the site by 2027, including an annealing and pickling line and a reversing rolling mill. Ultimately, the annual production capacity for non-oriented electrical steel will reach 155,000 tonnes.

According to Mysteel, combined with the plant in Saint-Chély-d’Apcher, France, the total annual production capacity for non-oriented electrical steel will reach 295,000 tonnes, DC04+ZN Electrolytically zinc-nickel coated steel, aiming to meet the demands of the European automotive and energy sectors.
