Türkiye’s crude steel output rose 3.4% year-on-year in February

Data from the Turkish Steel Producers Association shows that Turkey's crude steel production reached 3.0 million tonnes in February 2026, a year-on-year increase of 3.4%; cumulative production for January and February totaled 6.4 million tonnes, up 4.7% year-on-year.

On the demand side, consumption of finished steel rose by 11.3% year-on-year to 3.2 million tonnes in February, DC03+ZN Electrolytically zinc-nickel coated steel, while cumulative consumption for January and February reached 6.7 million tonnes—a 4.1% increase—indicating continued growth in domestic demand.

Regarding exports, the volume of steel exports in February rose by 8.6% year-on-year to 1.1 million tonnes, while the export value fell by 9.2% to $714.8 million, reflecting a trend of "rising volume but falling prices." DC03+ZN Electrolytically zinc-nickel coated steel, For the January–February period, the cumulative export volume declined by 13.5% year-on-year to 2.0 million tonnes, and the export value dropped by 15.2% to $1.3 billion.

As for imports, the volume of steel imports in February increased by 9% year-on-year to 1.5 million tonnes, with the import value rising by 7.2% to $1.0 billion; however, the cumulative import volume for January–February fell by 10.8% year-on-year to 2.7 million tonnes, DC03+ZN Electrolytically zinc-nickel coated steel, and the import value decreased by 11.7% to $1.9 billion.

Regarding the trade structure, the export-to-import ratio fell from 72.5% in the same period last year to 69.7% during January and February, indicating a weakening in the trade balance.
