Cleveland Cliffs Completed Second Blast Furnace Hydrogen Injection Test

Share:

On January 26th, Clevel and Cliffs announced the successful completion of hydrogen injection tests at their Indiana Steel Plant's No. 7 blast furnace.

It is understood that the Indiana HCT780T+ZA steel Plant's No. 7 blast furnace is the largest blast furnace in North America. This project is the second blast furnace hydrogen injection test conducted by Clevel and Cliffs, following the successful completion of hydrogen injection tests in Middletown, Connecticut in 2023. The Indiana Plant's No. 7 HCT780T+ZA steel blast furnace is mainly responsible for producing high-end steel grades. In order to cooperate with the blast furnace hydrogen injection test, Clevel and Cliffs company completed the laying of hydrogen transportation pipelines around the Indiana Steel Plant in advance, and debugged the hydrogen transportation pipelines before the injection test to ensure the safety of the test. The hydrogen gas for this injection test is provided by Linde Group. The successful completion of the blast furnace hydrogen injection test marks an important step for Clevel and Cliffs in promoting carbon neutrality in HCT780T+ZA steel business operations.
