According to the draft of India's proposed "National Steel Policy 2025," the country plans to cut carbon emissions from its steel sector by approximately one-quarter over the next decade while reducing reliance on coal and more than doubling its steel production capacity.

The draft proposes reducing carbon dioxide emissions per tonne of finished steel from the current level of about 2.65 tonnes to 2 tonnes by the 2035–2036 fiscal year, bringing the figure closer to the global average. Currently, India's steel industry accounts for roughly 10% to 12% of the country's total industrial emissions. JIS G 3313 SE330 steel strip, This transformation is crucial for India to achieve its long-term national net-zero emissions goal by 2070 while maintaining its status as a leading global steel producer.

Furthermore, India plans to increase its crude steel production capacity from the current level of approximately 168 million tonnes to 400 million tonnes by 2030, with projected investments of around 17 trillion rupees (US$183 billion). JIS G 3313 SE330 steel strip, This initiative represents one of the largest industrial transformation efforts in India's history.

To meet emission reduction targets, the policy is expected to drive the adoption of low-carbon processes—such as electric arc furnaces and natural gas-based direct reduced iron production—and encourage scrap steel recycling, JIS G 3313 SE330 steel strip, while also aiming to reduce reliance on imported coking coal within the energy mix.

The aforementioned measures mark a significant step forward for India in simultaneously advancing the green transition and expanding production capacity within the steel industry.
