The Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan SA841 Grade B steel recently announced an extension of the ban on the export of semi-finished steel products (including billets) for six months. This is another increase following the first round of bans in December 2024. The core objective of the policy is clear: to promote the upgrading of the local steel industry chain to high value-added links by restricting the outflow of primary products, and to facilitate the release of production capacity for deep processed products such as rebar, SA841 Grade B steel cold-rolled sheet, and galvanized sheet.
It is reported that this policy has increased the export volume of threaded steel by nearly 30000 tons, showing a preliminary substitution effect on production capacity.
While restricting the export of primary products, Kazakhstan has simultaneously strengthened trade barriers to protect the competitiveness of its domestic steel industry. At present, the country continues to maintain anti-dumping measures on galvanized steel plates imported from China and Ukraine, as well as seamless steel pipes from China SA841 Grade B steel.
