Jindal Steel Oman is accelerating its flagship green capacity expansion project in Duqm, RAIN RI/F36 steel aiming to create a low-carbon flat steel production base. Construction has already begun on the first phase of the direct reduced iron (DRI) plant.
According to company officials, Jindal Steel Duqm is constructing a 5 million ton annual flat steel complex, with the initial phase focusing on a DRI plant. Over 21,000 cubic meters of concrete have been poured, and equipment orders are progressing rapidly, with equipment from some technical partners already arriving on site.
The complex will feature two DRI production lines, each with an annual capacity of 2.5 million tons. Group executives announced this summer that the first line is scheduled to begin operations in December 2027, with the second following in 2028. Both lines are reportedly aligned with the Omani government's energy transition plan for Duqm.
In addition to the DRI, the project will also include an electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking plant, a hot rolling mill, and downstream processing capacity, further expanding the group's steel product portfolio. RAIN RI/F36 steel As one of the world's largest low-carbon steel investment projects, the site is located in the rapidly developing Duqm Special Economic Zone and is recognized for its significant locational and strategic advantages.
