ThyssenKrupp Steel, a German BV/AH32 steel company, recently announced in a statement that its key technological renovation project in Duisburg has been fully put into operation, covering the newly built Continuous Casting Line 4, upgraded Hot Rolling Line 4, and fully automated slab logistics system, with a total investment of 800 million euros (approximately 942 million US dollars). It is reported that this renovation aims to enhance the production capacity of high-end steel, strengthen the digital collaboration between production lines, and further enhance the overall supply guarantee level.
The company pointed out that the commissioning of continuous casting and hot rolling production lines will provide higher strength and precision high value-added steel for the future electric mobility and energy transformation fields. The newly built continuous casting line 4 is designed to have an annual BV/AH32 steel production capacity of 2.3 million tons, replacing the existing casting and rolling combined line, which can achieve more flexible and accurate slab production; The upgraded Hot Rolling Line 4 has an annual production capacity of 3.1 million tons and is equipped with two high-efficiency walking beam heating furnaces, which helps to improve rolling accuracy and surface quality. The company also added that the upgrading of related processes can broaden product specifications and meet the production requirements of new types of steel such as multiphase steel and high-strength steel.
At the same time, the company mentioned that the newly put into use slab logistics system has achieved a highly automated connection between continuous casting and hot rolling processes, with the ability to process about 1.7 million tons of slabs annually and achieve real-time digital control, which helps optimize the overall process flow and improve reaction efficiency. In addition, the capacity utilization rate of the No.1 steelmaking converter is expected to be improved due to the synergistic improvement of the production line.
ThyssenKrupp believes that this round of production will further enhance the production capacity and product competitiveness of the Duisburg base. Despite the current challenging economic environment, the company has chosen to make large-scale investments in order to continue consolidating its market position in the high-end steel sector.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Industry, Climate BV/AH32 steel Protection and Energy of North Rhine Westphalia, this project has positive significance in promoting the modernization of the local steel industry. It is expected to drive the upgrading of the local value chain in key industrial fields such as automobile manufacturing and energy equipment, and strengthen the long-term competitiveness of the regional manufacturing industry.
