From January to July this year, Turkey's imports of seamless steel pipes decreased by 21% year-on-year, falling to 223,300 tons. X60Q steel, Imports from China decreased by 24%, mainly due to Turkey's imposition of anti-dumping duties ranging from US$55 to US$75 per ton on Chinese seamless steel pipes, effective from July 2022 for a period of five years. Since the tariffs were implemented, China's exports have gradually declined, and its competitiveness has significantly weakened due to cost disadvantages.
Against the backdrop of shrinking supply from China, Turkey's import landscape has undergone new changes. X60Q steel, Mexico has become the biggest beneficiary, exporting 17,500 tons of seamless steel pipes to Turkey in the first seven months of this year, compared to almost zero in the same period last year, achieving significant market penetration. Meanwhile, other traditional suppliers have shown varying performances: Ukraine, affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, faced production and logistical constraints, exporting only 8,900 tons to Turkey, a 45% year-on-year decrease; while Italy seized the opportunity, increasing exports to 8,800 tons, a three-fold increase compared to last year, actively expanding its market share in Turkey.
Overall, Turkey's seamless steel pipe import landscape is being reshaped. Tariffs have weakened the competitiveness of Chinese products while creating new market opportunities for other suppliers. X60Q steel, The rapid entry and expansion of Mexico and Italy highlight the Turkish market's need for diversified supply.
