From January to November 2023, Türkiye’s scrap import volume dropped by 15% year on year

According to the data released by Türkiye Statistics Bureau (TUIK), although the import volume recovered in the replenishment activity in the last quarter, the scrap import volume of Türkiye's steel mills in the first 11 months of 2023 still fell by 15% to 17.1 million tons year-on-year. In November 2023, Türkiye Steel Plant imported 155000 tons of scrap steel, an increase of 17.5% year on year, and the import volume remained the same month on month S420GD+Z steel.

From January to November 2023, the United States will still be Türkiye's largest supplier of scrap steel, with a supply of 4.1 million tons, up 11.5% year on year. The Netherlands is Türkiye's second largest supplier of scrap steel, with 1.92 million tons, down 6% year on year. Belgium exported 1.43 million tons of scrap steel to Türkiye, basically the same as last year. Britain exported 1.2 million tons of scrap steel to Türkiye, down 30% year on year S420GD+Z steel.

Under the influence of the local situation, the import volume from the CIS region has sharply decreased. As one of the largest scrap steel suppliers in Türkiye, Russia delivered 423000 tons of scrap steel to Türkiye from January to November, down 6% year on year, while Ukraine only supplied 2200 tons, down sharply from 360500 tons in the same period last year.

In addition, the countries supplying scrap steel to Türkiye from January to November 2023 also include Romania (896000 tons), Denmark (858000 tons), Lithuania (753000 tons), Germany (750000 tons) and Venezuela (581000 tons) S420GD+Z steel.
