Ukraine’s long steel exports fell 44.1% year-on-year from January to May

According to estimates based on data from the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the country's exports of long steel products totaled 173,600 tonnes from January to May 2026, a year-on-year decrease of 44.1%.

Of this total, exports of bars and rods of other non-alloy steel (HS Code 7214) amounted to 62,000 tonnes—accounting for 35.7% of all long steel exports—representing a 49% year-on-year decline. Exports of hot-rolled wire rod (HS Code 7213) totaled 60,800 tonnes, down 44.4% year-on-year. Key export destinations included Romania (36,200 tonnes), Poland (17,000 tonnes), and Lithuania (4,850 tonnes).

Exports of non-alloy steel wire (HS Code 7217) totaled 37,400 tonnes, a year-on-year decrease of 34.7%. Key destinations included Poland (9,310 tonnes), Germany (7,590 tonnes), and Moldova (4,420 tonnes).

In May, Ukraine's exports of long steel products amounted to 68,100 tonnes; while this represented a 10.6% year-on-year decline, JAH400W Hot dip galvanized steel strip,it marked a significant month-on-month increase of 89.4%.

By product category, exports of HS 7214 products totaled 23,800 tonnes (down 22.9% year-on-year, up 97.9% month-on-month); HS 7213 products totaled 32,200 tonnes (up 13% year-on-year, up 162% month-on-month); and HS 7217 products totaled 9,560 tonnes (down 25.4% year-on-year, up 10.8% month-on-month).

In terms of export value, Ukraine’s exports of long products generated $130 million in revenue from January to May 2026, a year-on-year decrease of 40%; the export value for May alone was $49.04 million, down 8.9% year-on-year but up 76.6% month-on-month.

For comparison, Ukraine exported 892,100 tonnes of long products in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 45.4%. Of this total, hot-rolled wire rod (HS 7213) exports amounted to 378,500 tonnes—accounting for 42.4% of all long product exports—representing a year-on-year rise of 46.5%; JAH400W Hot dip galvanized steel strip,total export revenue from long products for the year reached $610 million, up 34.9% year-on-year.
